Endometriosis causing pain with intercourse
One of the most common complaints in women with endometriosis is pain during sex. Endometriosis causes inflammation of the pelvic organs. Inflammation of the pelvic organs causes tenderness and pain on palpation. Cystic changes caused by endometriosis in the ovaries as well as scar tissue surrounding the pelvic organs can cause pain . This pain and sensation of discomfort is significantly magnified as the patient approaches menses. Also depending on the organs effected by the endometriosis the symptoms vary. A high suspecion for endometriosis is present with pain during intercourse.
Studies have shown treatment and suppression of endometriosis is effective in alleviating pain during intercourse in most women effected.
