Fibroids, also known as myomas, are primarily benign tumors of the uterus that as they grow enlarge the uterus and create pressure on surrounding organs. Fibroids can cause pain, urinary frequency and urgency and sometimes feeling of bloating and constipation depending which pelvic organ they displace. Fibroids can also cause heavy vaginal bleeding which each menstrual cycle.

Women with fibroids also report pain and sometimes bleeding with penetration during intercourse. It is important all pain to be evaluated as early as possible to rule out other causes of pain such as malignant tumors of the pelvic organs.
